Pakistan hockey team beats Japan by 7-0














KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey team have defeated Japan in the opening match of Aisa Cup with a huge margin of 7-0 on Saturday in Ipoh.

Green shirts have outclassed the opponents in a one sided contest in the first group match.

Pakistan had launched the counter attack from the beginning with the first goal by Mohammad Waqas in the thirteenth minute of the first half.

They kept the firm grip on the match and scored six goals in the first half and Japan seemed helpless to restrict them.

Mohammad Waqas, Mohammad Tauseeq and Mohammad Imran scored two goals each.  

Pakistan is drawn in pool “A” with Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, Chinese Taipei while pool “B” consist of South Korea, India, Bangladesh and Oman.

Pakistan will take on their toughest opponent of group, Malaysia in the second group on Sunday.

Pakistan had appeared winner of the first three events in 1982, 1985 and 1989.

Major threats for Pioneer of launching Asia Cup, Pakistan are India, Pakistan and Malaysia, which they will face in semi-finals.

In 2009 Pakistan was the runners up of the tournament, when they lost to Korea at Kuanta, Malaysia. 

Pakistan wasn’t able to qualify for the World cup after getting seventh position in World Hockey League.

Asia Cup is a must win situation for Pakistan to qualify for the World Cup otherwise it would be the first time in Pakistan 64 years hockey history that it will be out of the mega event.
